“Give us this day, our daily bread”
Many years ago a family in Czechoslovakia possessed a Bible, though they were not permitted to read the Bible or to own one.
Occasionally, police would search houses to seize forbidden possessions, such as Bibles. This family hid the Bible in bread dough, which they baked into a loaf. No one thought to look in the loaf for a hidden Bible.
Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 to Satan: “Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
We all love bread. We enjoy it daily and would miss it very soon if we were deprived of it. Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread.
If someone came into your house and took your Bible, how soon would you miss it? Would you begin to hunger immediately, after only a few hours, or go days without realizing it was gone?
Hunger for God’s word and read it daily. Life depends on it!
